~ Who Is Connor ~
Connor Nelson is a Los Angeles–based cinematographer and documentary filmmaker whose work centers on wildfire, mental health, and addiction—subjects that shape his storytelling and reflect his belief in film as a tool for connection and change.
Raised in Winter Park, Colorado, Connor spent nearly a decade as a professional freeskier sponsored by Atomic Skis, Giro, and Winter Park Resort. He discovered filmmaking by documenting his friends on the slopes, a passion that grew into a career. After earning his degree in cinematography from Columbia College Chicago, he moved to Los Angeles, where he now works full-time in documentary film.
Connor’s cinematography has become specialized in the wildfire space, telling stories of devastation, resilience, and the communities living on the frontlines. His recent feature, Inside the L.A. Firestorm, explores the Palisades and Eaton wildfires, bringing viewers into the urgent realities of a fire-prone world.
Beyond wildfire, Connor is deeply committed to mental health and addiction advocacy. He founded the Alive Film Challenge, a filmmaking initiative focused on breaking stigma and sparking conversations around mental health and recovery. These themes often guide his creative vision and influence the projects he chooses to pursue.
Connor is also the Festival Director of the Winter Park Film Festival in his hometown of Colorado, curating films that inspire, educate, and connect communities.
Whether behind the camera or leading platforms that champion meaningful stories, Connor’s mission is clear: to create films that matter—films that move people, open conversations, and build resilience in the face of challenge.
